V&R publishes in the field of church history series such as »Arbeiten zur Geschichte des Pietismus« (AGP), »Arbeiten zur Kirchlichen Zeitgeschichte« (AKiZ), »Forschungen zur Kirchen- und Dogmengeschichte« (FKDG), »Reformed Historical Theology« (RHT) and »Veröffentlichungen des Instituts für Europäische Geschichte« (VIEG). One focus is Pietism and contemporary history.
Furthermore, V&R publishes important reference material, biographies and single studies.
Some of the renowned core literature are »Bekenntnisschriften der evangelisch-lutherischen Kirche« (BSELK) and the handbook »Die Kirche in ihrer Geschichte«.
