This essay is concerned with ›Poetologie des Wissens‹, a specific form of historiography of science which has recently received a great deal of attention. The claim of the ‘Wissenspoetik’, to have created a new paradigm to redefine cultural studies, is examined critically with regard to its methodological premises and results. This paradigm, however, does not withstand close examination.
