Papyrologische Kommentare zum Neuen Testament

About this series

How did the average reader in ancient times understand contemporary New Testament authors? Archaeological findings from sites of the Roman Empire, philological findings from Graeco-Roman writings, including early Jewish writings, and socio- and religious-historical findings need to be taken into consideration. For their interpretation of the biblical texts the papyrological commentaries consider primarily texts from everyday life (papyri and ostraka) but also selected literary writings, philosophical, legal and otherwise scholarly texts. We have no single document that could easily be ascribed to one primary reader of the biblical texts but we have got a thousand texts of people in their times and context.
Volumes will be published in both German and English.
