Schriften zur britischen Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaft
After decades of theorized literary study and the neglect of the text in favour of various theoretical models, literary text and context are brought back to the forefront. Close reading: A series on British Literature and Cultural Studies is programmatically committed to creative and innovative textual interpretation. Without entirely foregoing theoretical patterns and classfication schemes, the concern behind the series is to publish works that undertake interpretations of British texts of all genres from the 16th to the 21st century that are substantiated and adhere to the text. The objective is to emphatically confront not only the widespread misconception in some disciplines today that cultural studies is everything except the literature, but also the notion that philological text work is behind the times, dry and self-referential.
