Representations & Reflections

Studies in Anglophone Literatures and Cultures

The series “Representations & Reflections” offers a forum for innovative theoretical studies on anglophone literatures and cultures. The spectrum ranges from literary and cultural studies on Medieval England to questions of the constitution of identity in postcolonial film and literature, from dramas from the Shakespearian period to literary and media representations of war in contemporary American culture. The series accepts studies written in English and German, and interdisciplinary and comparative studies with an anglophone focus. In theoretical and methodical terms, as implied by the series’ subtitle, the series is undogmatic. ‘Representation’ can be defined as a process of constituting meaning. In this process, the components ‘reference’ and ‘performance’ play a special role by generating ambiguity and innovation. ‘Reflections’ points to the tension between text and context; on the other hand, it can also be understood in the sense of consideration or contemplation, thus giving expression to both theoretical orientation and as yet uncompleted scholarly work.
