There is hardly a metaphysical problem today that has been solved without the help of quantum mechanics – in theory at least. This may seem surprising at first glance, since quantum mechanics is basically a physical theory. The goal of quantum metaphysics, however, is to provide empirical support for ideological positions. The intention is to show that certain metaphysical hypotheses have been confirmed , substantiated, suggested or somehow favored by physics. Anna Ijjas scrutinizes the present practices and suggests an alternative model to combining quantum mechanics and metaphysics. Her work thus runs both thematically and methodologically along the lines between physics and metaphysics or natural philosophy.
In her introduction concerning both methodology and scientific theory, Anna Ijjas deals first with the so-called problem of interpretation, thereby developing a new model of interpretation that forms the basis for the subsequent study. In the next section she sketches the physical background and describes classical philosophical matters. Finally, she studies the anthropological consequences of these themes. The following questions are treated: the problem of free will, the relationship between human consciousness and the brain, God´s actions in the world. Anna Ijjas develops new approaches by pointing out the inadequacy of previous interpretations, her goal being to encourage a broad discussion of these matters.
