Gründungsmythen Europas in Literatur, Musik und Kunst -

“Europe” is more than just a geographical definition. It also comprises historical, cultural, ideational, political, economic and legal aspects. Such diversity, symbolized by the double association of Europe with the bull and the ring of stars is the subject of this volume. Over 30 essays are concerned with Europe not only as a cultural concept, the name of a continent, and an economic and political union of states, but also as Europe, the Greek mythological figure.
In the cultural history of the Occident, this dual perspective of Europe has proved to be immensely fruitful for the development of European identities. There was still a need, however, for a multidisciplinary study. This volume therefore brings together renowned researchers from Europe and beyond, from the disciplines of history, philosophy and the philologies, literature, cultural and art sciences and musicology, as well as geography, ethnology, political science and law.
