Only 7 persons attended her funeral in 1977. Elisabeth Schmitz, a historian and theologian, worked up until 1938 at a girls’ school in Berlin, later returning to her hometown of Hanau during the war. There, no one knew the role she had played in the resistance movement in Berlin. She chose to remain silent, and only 2004 did more details of her courage emerge when a briefcase with her personal documents was found in a church basement. The telling of the history of her life was overdue.
