Is religious education still appropriate as a manifestation of religion at school? Would ethics, religious studies or integrated religious education for Christian, Jewish and Muslim students and students of other religions not be better alternatives to the present model of religious learning at school provided on the basis of Article 7 III of the Basic Law? Is the dictum that the various religious doctrines should be imparted at school as existing but, as it were, competing truths still timely?
Against this background, this volume is a contribution to shaping the profile of future research on the conditions for Islamic religious education in theory and practice as a standard subject in state schools. It takes up societal discourses on the role of religion at state schools and examines areas of educational activity at school as a place of learning, thus contributing to the debate on the location of religions in the context of religious education in Germany.
