The boomtime in the 20th century lasted from the 1950s to the 1970s and was a time of stability, kicked off by the Marshall Plan in 1947 and concluded by the oil crisis of 1973. There were some basic changes that took place in economics which affected the political and social ideas in Western Europe. The social model of the boomtime was modified at a rapid pace. These complex events represent a structural upheaval in the development of Germany and Western Europe in general since World War II. The simultaneous presence of continuity and change in both the existing structures and the mentalities of the population marks this epoch in modern European history.
