This Festschrift in honor of Martin Linder provides an unprece-dented account of the history of child and adolescent psychiatry, psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy in Bavaria. This medical discipline, among the youngest in Germany, was first recognized as a specialty by the German Medical Association (Bundesärztekam-mer) in 1968. The opening of the Heckscher-Klinik in Munich in 1929 marked the beginning of the field’s clinical development. Today there are 14 such specialty hospitals and 14 satellite sites statewide.
An introduction to the history and present state of training, re-search and provision of services in child psychiatry and psycho-therapy is followed by two chapters on select clinical sites and current subspecialties of the field within Bavaria. This volume, with contributions from nearly all of the directors of child psy-chiatry departments in the state and in particular Regensburg, pays tribute to Martin Linder, the erstwhile medical director of the Regensburg clinic.
