The radio plays, essays, novels and journal-style notes of Cécile Wajsbrots (born in 1954) tell of emigration and exile, travel and changing locations, of incomprehension and of loneliness. In addition to her own family history, her writings also revolve around the persecution of European Jews, and touch on questions such as politics of memory and overcoming the past.
The contributions to this volume not only reflect on the cultural dimension of memory in Cécile Wajsbrots work, but in particular they accentuate the almost poetic language of the author, the polyphonic and polysemous quality of her texts and her radio work. This – first – academic anthology on her work also includes a hitherto unpublished narrative and an interview with the author.
