This volume offers a critically edited text and a translation based on extensive grammatical and orthographical studies, followed by a commentary focussing on content. The latter is put into perspective against the background of Ancient Egypt’s cultural history, thus giving many insights into daily life.
The study pays special attention to the issue of intertextuality, exploring the problem of citations not only in Egyptian literature, but also in wisdom texts from neighbouring cultures. Among other findings, it is argued that some passages in the biblical Book of Proverbs probably derive from the Instructions of Ani.
