The expectations of adults often hinder and confine youths. Youth work that openly deals with life problems and provides youths with diverse offers to try things out can serve to break down blockages and help them to realize their inner potential.
Anyone intending to work with youths in the community – be it confirmands or the confirmed – has to know what´s presently going on in their life: “Who am I?” they ask, whereas the adults tend to answer: “What do you want to become?” The second question cannot be answered without answering the first – and both represent an important chance when working with youths. These questions must be asked in context and answered together with the adolescents.
Bernd Beuscher´s volume can be read in any direction: from the beginning or from the end. At the back are practical examples, at the beginning are remarks on the basic concepts. In both cases the youths themselves are at the focal point.
